Getting married and wondering how to line up your wedding party?
Hopefully you have a professional wedding officiant, such as Reverend Stacey Miles from Uniquely I Do Wedding Officiants, or a qualified wedding coordinator. But if not, don't fret!
Here is the traditional wedding processional lineup:
Officiant: The person who will be conducting the ceremony.
Grandparents of the Groom and then Bride: If they are participating.
Parents of the Groom and then Bride: If they are participating.
Groom: Often accompanied by his best man.
Groomsmen: Usually paired with bridesmaids.
Bridesmaids: Usually paired with groomsmen.
Maid of Honor.
Ring Bearer and Flower Girl: If included.
Bride with Escort (often one or both parents)
"While this is the 'traditional lineup'," Reverend Stacey from Uniquely I Do Wedding Officiants says, "I tell my couples there is no wrong way to do your wedding. Make your own traditions, be unique, do what makes you and your partner happy."
This is especially true with today's couples. There are many couples blending faiths, same sex marriages, extended family such as step-parents. Cultural traditions will also play a role.
It is also common these days to have a furry friend take the role of ring bearer or flower girl!
It is also very common to have a woman as the groom's best man, or a man be the bride's maid of honor. Here are some cute names for these roles:
• Man of Honor
• Chief Bridesman
• Bride's Right-Hand Man
• Best Woman
• Man of Honor
• Groom's Right-Hand Woman
Today's bride often walks down the aisle solo, without an escort, or with a brother, son or even grandson.
"It's best to have a plan that you and your partner agree on before you arrive at to your rehearsal," says Rev. Stacey. "You will have family or members of your wedding party ready to chime in with their opinion on how rehearsal should be done, which will only add stress to what should be a fun and memorable moment, and cause rehearsal to run longer than it should."
So, traditional or non-traditional, it really is up to you, the couple preparing to get married, to decide how you would like your wedding party to line up and walk down the aisle!
